Why Every Entrepreneur Needs A Mentor

MentorAre you and Entrepreneur wondering if you NEED a Mentor?

In today’s post I will share with you why EVERY Entrepreneur Needs a Mentor.

Why Every Entrepreneur Needs A Mentor

Personally for me, if it wasn’t because of early mentorship, I probably wouldn’t be here today with the success that I have. One of the first things that I did when I first got involved in the industry in 1987, I went to look for a mentor. I was very fortunate to find one in the organization that I was working with.

Because I was young (I had just graduated from the university) I had no idea how to build a home business. I had no idea how to even present to anybody. I was afraid. I didn’t want to speak in public and didn’t want to sell anything. Obviously, I needed to change. For me, very early on, I understood that if you want to be successful, find somebody who is successful in the area. Then go learn from them.

It’s the same thing, if you are starting to become a medical doctor, dentist, accountant. The best thing that you can do is go find somebody who’s successful in those areas and hopefully they’ll let you learn from them. In this business, it’s exactly the same thing.

When I first got involved, I studied the people that was in my organization who was having success. I looked at how they dressed. I looked at how they spoke. I looked at how they conducted themselves. I looked at what they were reading. I looked at what they were listening to. I looked at what they were watching and I tried to do the exact same thing.

Can Anybody Be Mentored?

Yeah! You can learn it anything. You just have to be willing to. You have to be willing to let somebody teach you. Unfortunately, some of the people who are not successful in what we’re doing because they’re not teachable. They don’t let people teach them anything. Some of the words that whenever I hear them, I cringe a little bit is when you start talking to somebody who’s new and the first thing that come out of their mouth is, “Oh, I know that.” Every time you open your mouth, you try to say something, “I know.” People like that, they’re not looking for a mentor. They already know everything. They might just have to take the longer road to success.

For me, it was very simple. It was very easy and I knew what I wanted. I know what I was looking for. I wanted to get rid of my job. I wanted to get rid of my alarm clock. When I got involved, I looked for the people who were either on their way to get rid of the alarm clock or had gotten rid of the alarm clock and had gotten rid of their bosses, and I started watching them. I started modeling them. I started copying them and I started learning from them and voila, my business started growing. I didn’t do anything special. I didn’t have any hidden knowledge. I just learned from the people who already had done it and were climbing the success ladder.

Right now, I have a couple of mentors that I work with. People say, “Why do you need a mentor? You’ve been around for 30 years almost. Why?” Listen, I don’t know everything. I’m learning every single day and when I stop learning, my business stops growing.
