How To Expand Your Business Internationally

Business InternationallyAre you looking for developing your business internationally? In this post I will share with you EXACTLY how I started expanding my business outside of the US.

Expanding Your Business Internationally

Here are a couple of tips about developing international business. These are very easy to do. You don’t really have to think about it too much, you just have to take ACTION.

1. Look Within Your Organization

Ask the people in your organization. If you know your company’s opening on Colombia, for instance. Go around inside your organization and ask the people in your organization if they know any Colombians. Do they have friends who have friends who know some people from Colombia? That’s one way of doing it, and it’s a very easy way of doing it.

2. Ask People at Work

If you have a job, ask people at work. You know people at work, they know a lot of people that you don’t know. They have a circle of influence that you don’t know. Ask them, “Hey, listen. Do you know anybody from Colombia?”

One is they’re going to ask you why.  Your answer should be, “Look, I’m starting a project in Canada, and I’m just looking for people who have contacts there that can help me out.” Guess what? If they’re curious people, they’re going to ask you, “Can you tell me about it?” That means you’re getting the people locally, and you might be able to get the people in Colombia or in the UK, whatever country it is that your company is opening.

One important tip when asking people at work is to be sure NOT to ask your Boss. Because your are probably going to get in trouble.

3. Accents

Whenever I meet somebody with an accent, my first question is, “Where are you from?” If my company’s already doing business there, I’m going to say, “Hey, listen. Fantastic! I’m glad I met you because I’m  about to expand a project into your country. And I’d love to sit and chat with you about it.”

I DON’T try to go explain everything then and there and tell them everything that you’re going to do.  Treat it professional. Get the contact, call them back, set an appointment. It’s a real business. If you treat it like a real business, it’s going to pay you like a real business. For more on Growing Your Business Internationally watch the video below.
